IS THERE ANOTHER MOMENT IN TIME QUITE AS DISAPPOINTING AS DISCOVERING YOUR HOMEMADE BUN DOUGH HASN’T RISEN.
And you suddenly realise you are going to have to offer your friends who are due in half an hour some shop bought mince pies instead of the freshly baked cinnamon buns you tempted them over with.
Oh the shame.
I’m 99% sure it was because of the yeast and the chill in the air but hey, lets not dwell on my mistakes; we all have a baking disaster from time to time…. (please just go with me on that one, I’m not ready to hear that everyone except me has perfect buns just yet)
Luckily I had a pan of mulled wine on the stove wafting it’s potent christmas scent towards the front door to welcome them in, and the mince pies weren’t just any old shop bought mince pies but Heston’s shortcrust pastry with mandarin sugar mince pies. I was forgiven for my sunken bun dough.

I’m going to run my first competition over on Facebook this week. The winner will get some goodies from the new Yuletide Sleigh-ride collection including the two mugs in these photos. The design was inspired by a vintage hand-painted hankie and is the first Christmas Katie Alice collection (very exciting)
You can enter by commenting on the Facebook post telling me what your favourite thing to bake at Christmas is – feel free to elaborate as much or as little as you like! I’ll pick a winner at random the old fashioned way on Wednesday the 17th of December.
Sadly the competition will only be available this time to UK residents so I have time to post the prize before christmas! (Full t & c’s in the notes section of my Facebook page)
Oh and here’s some photos of my buns…
